It's all about the spine.
Powell Pilates is a boutique Pilates studio located in the Bryker Woods neighborhood of Austin, Texas, led by founder, instructor, and proprietor Jenny Gillan-Powell. Grounded in a deep respect for movement as both discipline and expression, Powell Pilates offers a thoughtful, classical approach to Pilates that supports strength, balance, and longevity for bodies of all levels and backgrounds.
Jenny’s relationship with movement began early and was refined through her formal training as a dancer. She earned her BFA in Dance Performance from Southern Methodist University, where she first discovered Pilates, and went on to complete her initial Pilates Apparatus and Mat Certification at The Lab in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Teaching since 2011, Jenny later pursued a Classical Comprehensive Certification through Power Pilates in 2018 and is currently advancing her expertise through Power Pilates’ graduate Teacher Trainer Program.
With more than a decade of professional teaching experience and a background that includes ten years as a working dancer in New York City, Jenny brings both technical precision and lived athletic understanding to her instruction. Her teaching philosophy centers on Pilates as a method for protecting, stabilizing, strengthening, and balancing the body from the inside out—supporting not only physical performance, but overall wellbeing. Sessions emphasize correct form, alignment, and intelligent progression, while maintaining an energetic, positive, and encouraging environment.
After twelve years of teaching and operating a Pilates business in New York City, Jenny returned to her home state of Texas and opened Powell Pilates ATX in 2019. The studio is fully equipped with Gratz classical apparatus and welcomes everyone from first-time movers to seasoned athletes. Jenny is a strong advocate for cross-training and believes deeply in making Pilates accessible, relevant, and empowering—skills meant to be carried into daily life, not left at the studio door.
At Powell Pilates, movement is both the means and the goal: a lifelong practice that supports health, clarity, and joy.
